Ministry of Health, Senegal and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance
CHALLENGES
Multiple data collection tools existed at various levels in Senegal to perform supply chain tasks, but they only allowed for periodic reporting of aggregate data. There were no systems in place for order requisitioning or tracking, and orders were being placed via phone calls. Real-time supply chain information was not available to the EPI team to plan and achieve nationwide immunisation objectives.
SOLUTION
Logistimo SCM has been implemented in Senegal in the French language. It allows for real-time monitoring of vaccine quantity and quality, with an ultimate aim to improve vaccine coverage at the last mile. In association with Empower School of Health a local presence has been established in Senegal, to provide leadership in rolling out Logistimo’s technology for Senegal’s EPI program.
VALUE ADDED
Logistimo has enabled access to real-time vaccine data down to the last-mile of the supply chain. Availability of granular data and effective analytics from the platform is facilitating better supervision and timely action to achieve EPI goals. A unified system for stock management, order requisitioning and reporting has equipped the Ministry of Health for optimal planning, procurement and distribution of health services needed for a fast-growing birth cohort. In a short span of 6 months, Senegal has seen <1% vaccine stockouts in the deployed geography. Benefitting greatly from the network-wide transparency, Senegal's Ministry of Health has been able to seamlessly introduce multiple COVID-19 vaccines in to the existing supply chain and distribute them at high service levels.
